Artist's Comments

Although the picture in no way reflects the poem....I was inspired in making this picture by Christina Rosetti's poem "Goblin Market", here is a bit of it:

"Laura stared but did not stir,
Longed but had no money:
The whisk-tailed merchant bade her taste
In tones as smooth as honey,
The cat-faced purr'd,
The rat-paced spoke a word
Of welcome, and the snail-paced even was heard;
One parrot-voiced and jolly
Cried "Pretty Goblin" still for "Pretty Polly";
One whistled like a bird."

:iconempatia-stock: - girl
:iconvelvetstock: - mask
pendant, feathers, and eye - myself

*her nose is meant to be somewhat beak-like

hooray Christina Rossetti! :) this is very beautiful. gold and peacock and allure and unhappiness - although the mask and peacock feathers don't seem to blend as well.
